A new reserved seat car with longer and wider shelves in the form of a model was first shown in Moscow at the Transport of Russia forum and exhibition, RIA Novosti reported.
As Russian Railways explained to RIA Novosti, the transverse shelves will become 14 cm longer (up to 189.1 cm) and 3 cm wider (up to 62.7 cm). The longitudinal shelves will “grow” by 10 cm in length, up to 187.5 cm, and by 4 centimeters in width, up to 58.5 cm.
The new carriage of the so-called T dimension will have more passenger seats: 58 instead of the standard 54. Each berth is equipped with curtains, there are tables for passengers in the upper and lower shelves, personal lamps, air ducts and USB and 220 V sockets. Also in the new reserved seat carriage there will be two sanitary rooms and a separate shower.
The car is currently undergoing certification, which is planned to be completed in 2026.
Transmashholding has already built for Russian Railways and certified a new, wider and longer compartment car of size T. In 2025, they will begin running between Moscow and St. Petersburg, said Russian Railways General Director Oleg Belozerov. The carriage in the new size is planned to have reserved seats, it was stated in “Transmashholding”.
