Mihai Stegerean, one of the most respected journalists in the Romanian media, died

Mihai Stegerean, journalist and producer, one of the professionals who shaped the television of the last decades, died this morning, at the age of 50.

The media world in Romania is going through moments of great sadness after the disappearance of Mihai Stegerean, one of the professionals who contributed significantly to the evolution of TV journalism in the last thirty years. The news of his death, which occurred this morning, produced a wave of emotion and reactions in the newsrooms, among former colleagues and in the wider community of journalists who knew him or worked with him.
The announcement of his death was made by his wife, Mihaela Stegerean, who published a deeply emotional message on Facebook.
“With torn hearts, we announce that Mihai Stegerean has passed away. As of today, Mihai remains only a memory… in fact, many. The memory of a friend with a big heart and an equally big mouth, always on the sidelines, but without a trace of malice; the memory of an unsparing reporter and a producer who knew how to make you better even when you had no energy left. A man who could not bear to be pitied, because he healed himself alone the wounds and always found the strength to stand up.
Mihai remains hand in hand with his girls, Mihai with his girlfriend in his arms, Mihai in the newsroom, on the field or in the direction; Mihai having a beer with friends, singing in the streets; Mihai who encourages you that you will get through what is difficult. A beloved husband and father, outstanding journalist and man who knew how to touch the lives of those around him with kindness, courage and truth. He inspired countless people and changed destinies in the Romanian press, remaining a landmark of integrity, passion and light.
The lifeless body will be deposited tomorrow, December 2 between 14-22 at the Mogoșoaia 2 Church chapel, where all those who knew and cherished him can be close to him for the last time.
The funeral service will take place on December 3, at 11:30 a.m., at the Mogoșoaia 2 Church.
Mihai leaves behind a deeply grieving wife and three daughters, whom he loved above all else and for whom he was a dedicated, gentle and present father every day.
Instead of wreaths, and in the spirit of the care he always had for his loved ones, please, if you feel like it, honor his memory by supporting the future of the little girls. Any gesture is a tribute more alive and full of meaning than any flower”, wrote Mihaela Stegerean.
According to those close to him, Mihai Stegerean had been hospitalized for several days, facing a serious illness that had been affecting his health for several years. With the discretion that has always characterized him, he avoided exposing his suffering, trying to fight his battle in silence, but the body finally gave out.
Mihai Stegerean's career is closely related to the major transformations that the Romanian press went through after 1989. He entered television journalism in 1995, joining the Pro TV team as a reporter. The alert pace of the news and his ability to quickly understand the dynamics of events quickly propelled him to coordination roles.
Later, he joined Observatorio de la Antena 1, where he was producer of the evening news, one of the most watched news programs of the period.
He also made an important contribution to the consolidation of Digi TV's news department, where he was involved in coordinating editorial teams and modernizing production processes.
The accumulated experience then recommended him for the position of general producer at B1 TV, and Kanal D television requested his expertise for the organization and efficiency of the newsroom.
In 2015, he returned to B1 TV, this time as editor-in-chief, a role he held until 2022, when he left the media.
After retiring from television, he focused on a personal family project, without breaking away from the professional community that considered him a landmark of journalistic integrity and excellence in editorial production.
