Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan approved the decision of the National Committee for Emergency Situations, so the process of distributing bottled water to the population will be started on Sunday evening, according to the announcement made by Prahova Prefecture.
“The Prime Minister of Romania has affirmed his full support for solving the crisis and ensuring the needs of the population, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs is in close contact, through permanent communication, with the prefects of the affected counties, ensuring support for the solution – in the immediate and long term – of this situation that affects approximately 100,000 citizens”, Prahova Prefecture declared, on Sunday, in a statement on Facebook.
The prefecture said the situation was “unprecedented”.
“Considering the seriousness of an unprecedented situation, generated by the lack of responsibility and transparent and timely communication of the Romanian National Water Administration, respectively of ESZ Prahova, the Prefect of Prahova County and the Prefect of Dâmbovița County convened the County Committees for Emergency Situations by which they requested the Government of Romania to allocate drinking water to the affected localities, from the state reserves managed by the National Administration of State Reserves and Special Problems”, it is also shown in the communiqué.
Domestic water distributed by ISU in the affected localities
The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Prahova announced that the firefighters will distribute household water, prohibited for consumption, in the towns affected by the crisis in Paltinu, using the four 9,000-liter tanker trucks they have.
“During the extraordinary meeting of the County Committee for Emergency Situations (CJSU) which took place today, 30.11.2025, the issue of stopping the water supply was debated and it was decided that ISU Prahova will ensure the transport of domestic water – prohibited for consumption in the affected localities, using the 4 9,000 l tankers provided by the inspectorate”, said ISU Prahova, quoted by Agerpres.
The inspectorate stated that “the locations where domestic water will be distributed are determined by mutual agreement with the local authorities, according to the needs known by them”.
“At the same time, the local authorities provide containers for storing water and distributing it to the population (as I mentioned, the water is not intended for consumption)”, the information sent by ISU Prahova also states.
The first two tankers started the mission of distributing household water in Câmpina and Băicoi. Two others head towards Breaza and Brebu.
The National Administration of Romanian Waters declared, on Sunday, that in the Paltinu reservoir the water level has increased by approximately 12 meters, and the water still cannot be properly treated to become potable.
The supply of drinking water is stopped in the localities of Câmpina, Breaza, Băicoi, Adunati, Poiana Câmpina, Şotrile, Băneşti, Brebu, Telega, Vărbilău, Aluniş and partially in Floreşti commune of Prahova county.
The problem led to the suspension of hospitalizations in the Câmpina Municipal Hospital, except for major emergencies, because the unit can no longer sterilize surgical instruments or materials for small children, according to the announcement made by the medical director of the health unit, quoted by News.ro.
Another large hospital that is located in the Câmpina area, affected by the lack of drinking water, is the Voila Psychiatric Hospital. The manager of the sanitary unit, Irina Minescu, told News.ro that the Voila Hospital has a large water tank from which the necessary is provided.
