Dangerous incidents on tracks in Norway. “The driver heard a bang”

Rail network operator Bane Nor considered the incidents to be the result of deliberate actions. All of them occurred after dark in the same area, and similar objects were used to block the tracks: boulders or metal structures. Serious damage to the rolling stock was said to have occurred multiple times, and one of the incidents, according to Bane Nor, could have resulted in the derailment of the train.

The most serious incident occurred on November 11, when a train heading to Oslo had to make an emergency stop in Moss after hitting a massive element left on the tracks a few kilometers earlier. The driver reported a “loud bang” and the train entered the station with overheated brakes. The police found large steel elements on the tracks similar to those that had damaged another train in exactly the same place the day before.

“It is impossible to identify the perpetrator”

Despite reporting the threat to public safety to the police and informing the PST counterintelligence, investigators discontinued the proceedings after three days. According to “Aftenposten”, the police concluded that despite the analysis of the recordings and items recovered at the scene, it was not possible to identify the perpetrator.

The dangerous incidents occurred on the railway line connecting Oslo with the Swedish Gothenburg and Malmo. For fear of further dangerous incidents, the speed of freight and passenger trains was reduced by half.
