During the day, the media, citing the press service of the National Security and Defense Council, wrote that Umerov was summoned to NABU as a witness to testify in criminal proceedings opened on the fact of interference in the activities of a government official.
The NSDC called the conversation that took place on November 25 “constructive.”
“[Умеров] indeed interrogated,” said UP Krivonos. – I can’t reveal his status. All I can say is that he is not currently a suspect or accused. I will refrain from making any further comments, because this could harm the pre-trial investigation.”
Context
Umerov was Minister of Defense from September 2023 to July 2025. On July 18, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky appointed him Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
In November, a corruption scandal broke out in Ukraine at NNEGC Energoatom. In general, four ministers from different parts of the Ukrainian government are involved in the Energoatom case, head of the NABU detective department Alexander Abakumov told Ukrainskaya Pravda.
On November 11, the SAPO reported that Mindich, a suspect in the Energoatom corruption case, allegedly had influence, in particular, on Umerov when he was Minister of Defense.
On the same day, Umerov said that he had a meeting with Mindich, at which the issue of body armor under the contract was raised. As a result, the contract was terminated due to non-conformity of the product and no product was delivered, he noted. Umerov emphasized that any attempts to link his work in the Ministry of Defense with the “influence” of some individuals are groundless.
