Romania Proposes Self-Destruct Feature for Ukrainian Drones

Romania’s Minister of Defense, Miruță, has proposed that Ukrainian drones deployed in the Black Sea should be equipped with an autonomous self-destruction feature to avoid potential incidents, like the recent drone explosion at the port of Constanța.
Miruță stated that any drone launched into the Black Sea, particularly those manufactured in Ukraine, should be programmed to self-destruct if it inadvertently enters Romanian territorial waters. He emphasized that this capability could operate independently, even if the drone loses communication with its operator.
According to the minister, the drone’s microprocessor could execute the self-destruction command automatically once it crosses a designated boundary. Miruță also highlighted Romania’s concurrent efforts to bolster NATO’s presence on its eastern flank and enhance the military capabilities of its allies in the Black Sea region.
Context

- Additionally, the Ukrainian Navy stated that one of its unmanned surface vessels lost control during operations in the Black Sea and ended up near the shores of Romania.
