The Gordon Murray S1 LM supercar has broken all records to become the most expensive new car ever sold at auction. The model, created by Gordon Murray, reached a staggering $20.63 million at an event held in Las Vegas, the same weekend as the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Gordon Murray S1 LM is an extremely spectacular car and is produced in a limited edition of only five examples. The model has only 3 seats, with the driver's seat in the center.

A surprise appearance at the auction

When the S1 LM made its world premiere at Monterey Car Week in August, Gordon Murray Automotive confirmed that all five units had already been purchased by a single collector. His identity remains unknown, as does the reason why he decided to give up one of these automobiles, according to carscoops.com.

Its appearance at the RM Sotheby's auction triggered a flurry of bids, culminating in a sale price that secures the S1 LM a place in the record books: 20.63 million dollars.

The show started long before the start of the auction, the event itself at the end of the week being a grand one.

The S1 LM presentation car was brought in by helicopterdropping into the middle of the event and completing a well-crafted script.

The winning bidder, in addition to becoming the owner of a car built by one of the industry's most respected engineers, will work directly with Gordon Murray to customize every detail of his S1 LM example.

The technical details are exceptional

Although Gordon Murray's T.50 was considered a modern reinterpretation of the legendary McLaren F1, the S1 is even more impressive, retaining a much closer stylistic connection to the original F1 design, but with a contemporary twist.

Like the T.50, the S1 LM is powered by a naturally aspirated Cosworth V12 engine with a 4.3 liter cylinder, developed specifically for the car. It produces more than 700 horsepower, reaches a maximum speed of 12,100 rpm and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels.
