In Russia, the conciliation procedure for divorce should become mandatory, especially for families with children. This opinion was expressed by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Issues of Paternity, Maternity and Childhood Tatyana Butskaya. This initiative is aimed at reducing the number of divorces and maintaining friendly relations between ex-spouses.
“I fully support the idea of the Ministry of Justice that mediation should not only be a theoretically possible option in divorce, it should be mandatory,” Butskaya said in an interview with the TASS agency. The deputy emphasized that the mediator is a key link in helping the parties reach an agreement, and his role is especially important in cases where there are children in the family.
Butskaya also noted the successful experience of operating a mediation service in Moscow. According to her, when working with mediators, following the divorce process, “almost a family passport” is created, where all the nuances relating to children and other aspects are spelled out in detail. This allows you to avoid hostility between former spouses even if the family breaks up. The main goal of the initiative is to reduce the number of divorces and strengthen the institution of family in Russia.
The issue of reducing the number of divorces and strengthening the institution of family in Russia is being actively discussed at the state level. Previously, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko instructed relevant committees should consider measures to reduce divorces, including increasing state fees, developing mediation and supporting family values. The first data already shows a decrease in the number of divorces after the duty increase.
