At the Krasnoyarsk aluminum factory, the Rusal company was cast ingots using aluminum scrap. The KrAZ project is implemented using metal made using the inert anode technology.
The company said that primary aluminum from the electrolysis workshop was mixed with pre -prepared and molten scrap. Then the resulting mixture was poured in the foundry in flat ingots. The involvement of scrap was 50 %.
“This is an atypical technological process for the manufacturer of primary aluminum alloys, which requires an innovative approach. Lom has a carbon footprint nearliev and its involvement allows you to reduce the emissions of the finished product made from it. The new product combines such decarbonization tools as scrap and aluminum Allow Inte, produced using the inert anode technology. For KrAZ products, such a combination provides a decrease in the carbon trace of the final product by more than doubled compared to the traditional technology of the enterprise, ”Rusal representatives say.
Flat ingots will be processed into a jar tape, from which an aluminum jar will be made.
Rusal increases the number of projects in which scrap is used. In 2023, KrAZ already used it to create a foundry for the production of car discs, and in 2024 he first processed a batch of 60 tons of scrap of an aluminum can for the first time. For the production of such products, electricity from renewable sources is used.
