a traditional chess festival took place in the miners' town of Borodino / Sports news from Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

The traditional chess festival “Borodinsky Field – Link of Times” took place in the miners’ town of Borodino.
The chess players dedicated the autumn tournament, like the spring one, to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, which gave the competition a deep, symbolic meaning. It is a tribute to resilience and strategic thinking, qualities that are valued both on the battlefield and at the chessboard.
“Borodino is a city with great prospects, where wonderful people live who can not only work well, but also maintain good sports traditions,” Andrey Velikoselsky, Director for Economics and Finance of JSC SUEK-Krasnoyarsk, addressed the audience. He especially noted the contribution of the head of the Belaya Ladya club, Sergei Komogortsev, thanks to whom the chess movement in the city not only lives, but flourishes, discovering new names.
The best chess players from Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kansk and Zelenogorsk – more than sixty athletes in total – came together to compete on black and white boards. Among them were recognized masters, such as grandmaster Dmitry Khegai, and multiple champions of the Irkutsk region.
Sergei Komogortsev warmly remembered the founders of the chess movement in Borodino – front-line soldiers. Vasily Vasilyevich Zhitnyak, who, although not a strong player, loved children with all his soul and instilled in them a love of wise play. Mikhail Danilenko, Ivan Lapkov, Ivan Koltsov… Their names are forever inscribed in the history of local chess. This is exactly how this spark is passed on from father to son, from mentor to student.
Serious battles raged simultaneously in several groups: personal and team blitzes, a ladies' tournament, children's meetings and a special tournament – a tournament of generations. The atmosphere was filled not only with excitement, but also with mutual support.
Ten-year-old beard Dariana Vares, having beaten all her rivals, honestly admitted: “I would like the chess opponent to be stronger, it’s more interesting to play.”
And the winner of the ladies’ tournament, Alexandra Trishina, on the contrary, noted the difficulty of the fight in her group, shared her plans for the next year and talked about her successes:
“I plan to go to a grandmaster school in Zelenogorsk in winter, improve my level, and study the experience of the masters. This year I attended the Siberian Federal District Championship and the Krasnoyarsk Territory Championship. I took third place at the regional blitz competition. I’ve been studying chess for seven years now, and I really like this game.”
Grandmaster Dmitry Khegai showed the best result in the individual competition. In the generation tournament, the winner among children was Borodino resident Andrei Bersimenko, and among adults – Alexander Gvozdik.
Yaroslav Bulygin and Daryana Vares distinguished themselves in the children's tournament.
The best chess players among SUEK-Krasnoyarsk employees were separately noted. Once again, Andrei Velikoselsky became the leader of this nomination. Electrical mechanic of the Borodino open-pit mine Alexey Yakubenko is now in second place. Third place was taken by Aleksey Loposhnichenko, a mechanic for instrumentation and automation at the Borodino Mechanical Repair Plant.
The Irkutsk team had no equal in team wrestling. The team of the Borodino open-pit mine was in second place; the top three was completed by the SUEK-Krasnoyarsk chess players.
All winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas, received well-deserved medals, as well as memorable gifts from coal miners.
