“When I leave here, I will look for him, I will visit him and find out what his concerns were. A Fox News reporter, who would have witnessed the removal of Padilla, said he was “slammed and handcuffed by FBI police” before being “escorted to the hall” and “temporarily retained”.
Additional images, filmed by a NBC reporter, shows several policemen who keep immobilized Padilla.
Democratic officials were shocked by what the leader of the Senate minority described as a “brutality” against an American senator in the exercise.

Jimmy Gomez, who represents California in the US Congress, wrote on the social network X: “It is not only shocking, it is a threat to the rule of law and democratic responsibility. Senator Padilla supervises the violation of the law and Trump's violations (the rule of law (the rule of law, no. to anyone. “
Tina Smith, a senator from Minnesota, said: “It's disgusting. If this is how he treats Alex Padilla, a US senator, how do you think they will treat you?”.
And Kamala Harris, the candidate of the Democrats in the race against Trump for the US Presidency, reacted harshly. “The American Senator Alex Padilla represents millions of Californians who demand answers to the actions of this administration in southern California. It is an abuse of shameful and shocking power,” she wrote, in a message on X.

DHS defends the removal of Padilla, saying that he chose the “respectful political theater”
The Department for Internal Security (DHS) subsequently transmitted, in a statement, that the law enforcement “acted properly” when they forced Senator Alex Padilla from the Los Angeles press conference.
“Senator Padilla chose the political theater without respect and interrupted a press conference without identifying and without carrying the Senate security badge, while it was over the Secretary Noem,” said DHS, in a post on the X. “Mr. Padilla I was repeatedly asked to withdraw.
“Secret Service thought he was an attacker, and the officers acted properly,” the department added.
