On Thursday, the Ministry of National Education published data on students' participation in health education classes in individual voivodeships and larger cities.
“Data from almost 100 percent of schools shows that most participants are in primary schools – 804,539 students (40.36% of eligible students)in general secondary schools 55,003 (10.08%), in technical schools 30,729 (7.78%), in first-cycle vocational schools 27,457 (14.40%), and in art schools 3,083 (18.33%),” the ministry informed.
The largest percentage of students – 38.59%. (122,054 students) participate in health education classes in the province. Greater Polandin turn the least – 17.19%. (28,804) – in the province Podkarpackie.
The second place in terms of percentage was taken by the voivodeship. Lubuskie – 38.31 percent (31,378 students), and in the third voivodeship Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship with 37.26 percent (60,403). Data from the Ministry of National Education show that the participation of students in health education classes in selected cities fluctuates between approximately 20 percent and 35 percent The highest percentage of participants was recorded in Gorzów Wielkopolski – 35.66%. (4,632 students), and the lowest in Rzeszów – 14.49%. (3612).
In second place in terms of the percentage of eligible people was Łódź – 33.23%. (17,944 students), and the following are: Poznań – 32.93 percent (20,691), Katowice 31.54 percent (7806), Bydgoszcz – 31.31 percent (9619), Włocławek – 31.08 percent (2,859 students), Gdańsk – 29.11 percent (12,640), Kraków – 29.77 percent (21,884), Szczecin – 28.77 percent (10,474), Warsaw – 27.92 percent (51,455), Opole – 27.69 percent (3938), Zielona Góra – 26.98 percent (3905), Wrocław – 26.32 percent (16,929), Olsztyn – 24.70 percent (4515), Lublin – 21.39 percent (7628), Białystok – 20.82 percent (6,515) and Kielce – 19.81 percent. The Ministry of National Education stipulated that attendance depends on the organization of school work, the location of the subject in the lesson plan, local conditions and the specificity of the school.
Health education is a subject that this school year replaced education for family life – in primary schools in grades IV-VIII (one hour a week in each of these classes, with classes in grade VIII to be carried out only in the first semester) and in secondary schools (one hour a week for two years).
According to the Ministry of National Education, data from 2019/2020–2024/2025 showed a systematic decline in the percentage of students participating in family life education classes.
“In the 2019/2020 school year, 50.38 percent of students participated, while in 2024/2025 only 33 percent. A linear forecast indicates that if the current trend was maintained, in 2025/2026 this share would amount to approximately 30 percent, and in 2026/2027 it could drop to approximately 26 percent.” – wrote the ministry.
Health education is a subject that prepares students to take care of their physical, mental, social, digital and environmental health. Its program was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism with the participation of experts in various fields, such as doctors, teachers and specialists in physical activity, mental health and prevention.
