Likhovy, at a public meeting of Fire Point representatives with the media, announced statistics on the use of long-range UAVs for August-September.
Thus, according to the General Staff, 51% of long-range drones produced by Ukraine are FP-1. At the same time, half of the same type of fire missions, where only drones of the same model take part, end in successfully hitting the target.
“In terms of efficiency, the FP-1 can be compared with the Lyutiy drone. Each of these drones has its own advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages of the FP-1 is its price, because it is three times cheaper than its competitor. This means that it can be used in larger quantities,” Likhovy said.
According to him, the FP-5 Flamingo missile, which Ukraine uses to attack Russian territory, is “an experimental weapon with great technical characteristics and development potential.”
“But its improvement is complicated by the high price for one product and the capabilities of the manufacturer,” noted Likhovy.
Context
Ukrainian-made cruise missile FP-5 “Flamingo” got its name due to a manufacturing defect. The first versions of the rocket were pink, so it was named after birds with that color. The head of the manufacturer Fire Point, Irina Tereh, told the Associated Press that in October the company plans to increase the scale of production to seven missiles daily.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in August called the missile the most successful weapon of Ukrainian production. He stated that mass production will begin in January – February 2026.
The Economist wrote on October 5 that Ukrainian defense forces are already being used in combat against the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, new FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles. They fly at an altitude of only 50 m above the ground, which complicates detection, and the range of the missile, carrying a charge with 1150 kg of explosives, reaches more than 3 thousand km, the media added.
