Donald Tusk will present the Polish position on the US peace plan


The European Union-African Union summit will begin on Monday in the capital of Angola, Luanda, coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence. The meeting will be led by the President of Angola, Joao Lourenco, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will also be present. Costa announced that On the sidelines of the summit, there will be a special meeting of leaders of EU countries, the topic of which will be the peace plan for Ukraine.

Prime Minister Tusk announced on Sunday that he would present the Polish point of view on the American project during the summit. He emphasized that together with the leaders of, among others, France, Germany, Great Britain, Canada and Japan declared their readiness to work on the plan, although reservations were raised about its selected points. The Prime Minister noted that European leaders would discuss this issue before the start of the summit in Luanda.
In addition to Prime Minister Tusk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Kupiecki, responsible for security policy, cooperation with the United States and support for Ukraine, will also attend the event.
On Saturday, Antonio Costa attended the G20 summit in Johannesburg, where a meeting of the leaders of the EU, Canada, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany and Japan regarding Ukraine was held on its sidelines. The leaders' joint statement emphasized that the draft US peace plan requires further negotiations. The leaders expressed concern about provisions regarding the limitation of Ukraine's armed forces, which could expose the country to future attacks, and emphasized that any decisions regarding NATO and the EU must be accepted by their members.
Another meeting will be held on Sunday in Geneva, this time of representatives of the informal E3 group – France, Germany and the UK – as well as the EU, the US and Ukraine. The talks will focus on the details of the 28-point peace plan proposed by the United States. Russia will not take part in this meeting.

Axios revealed on Thursday details of the American project, which includes, among others, Ukraine's commitment not to join NATO, reduction of its armed forces to 600,000. soldiers and giving up part of the territory to Russia. Reuters reported that the US is pressuring Ukraine, threatening to limit supplies of weapons and intelligence information, to force it to accept the plan. President Donald Trump confirmed that he had given Ukraine until Thursday to make a decision, while stressing that the proposal was not final.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured that the peace plan is an American development, with input from both Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, some senators claim that the project was handed over to the Americans by the Russians.
