“A nightmare meeting.” European leaders questioned Trump's plan

A British newspaper source described the event as a “nightmare meeting.” According to reports, during the exchange of words, several representatives of European countries questioned the American peace plan for Ukraine and the way in which the United States conducted negotiations with Russia without informing its allies about it.

As reported by the Guardian, Driscoll declined to provide details on whether the peace deal being discussed is consistent with the 28-point plan published by Axios on Thursday. — Some things are important, some are just appearances; we focused primarily on what was important, said an American official quoted by the source.

The daily recalled that “the announcement of the US plan (…) surprised other Ukrainian allies who were unaware of its content and format. There are concerns in Europe that Russia had too much influence on the negotiations during the development of the draft agreement, which is presented to the Ukrainians as a foregone conclusion.”

The Americans were to say directly: Ukraine's situation will get worse

Driscoll defended the idea, saying that “President Trump wants peace now.” “The more cooks in the kitchen, the harder it is to deal with,” he said.

Julie Davis, US chargee d'affaires in Kiev, who was present at the meeting, said that Ukraine had no choice but to accept this plan or face a worse situation in the future. — The peace deal will not improve from this point on, it will be even worse for Ukraine, said an American diplomat.

According to press reports, the Ukraine peace plan was developed by Trump adviser Steve Witkoff and Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev. The Guardian reported that Driscoll will soon travel to Russia to hold further talks on the peace agreement.
