The White House, through the voice of the press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, defended Donald Trump on Thursday, who referred to a journalist with the term “pig”, saying that this shows the honesty and transparency of the American president towards the media, informs EFE, quoted by Agerpres.
“The president is very open and honest with everyone in this room. You've seen it yourself. You've experienced it too,” Leavitt said in a press conference, when asked by a reporter what Trump meant when he called a reporter that way.
Trump addressed him last Friday with the formula “Shut up! Shut up, you pig!” to the correspondent of the American agency Bloomberg at the White House, Catherine Lucey, on board Air Force One, when she asked him about the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The incident was reported by the American media on Tuesday.
“The president gets mad at reporters when they tell lies about him, when they spread fake news about him and his administration. But he's also the most transparent president in history and, as you all know, he gives everyone in this room unprecedented access,” the White House spokeswoman said.
Leavitt praised Trump as the most transparent president and criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden.
“I think the fact that the president is honest and open and honest with you, instead of hiding behind your back, is frankly much more respectful than what you saw in the last administration. Everyone in this room should appreciate the honesty and openness that President Trump provides on an almost daily basis,” she concluded.
