Romania will go to winter time on the night of October 25 to 26, 2025, when the watches are back with one hour. The 4.00 am becomes 3.00, which will make the day of Sunday, October 26, be the longest of this year, because it will have 25 hours.

The time changes twice a year in Romania: in March and October. The winter time, also known as “standard time”, is the opposite of the summer time, and the change will be on the night of October 25 to 26, 2025.

With the time changing, the day darkens faster, and in the morning it brightens earlier.

The system of summer and winter time involves an “adjustment” with one hour of watches every spring and autumn, to benefit from natural light. At summer time, the clock is given one hour before (3.00 hours becomes 4.00), while at winter time the clocks are given back with one hour. Theoretically, sleeping for an extra hour.

Doctors warn that the transition to winter time can affect some people, who can adapt harder to the new sleep schedule.

The introduction of the time change system, also known as Daylight Saving Time (DST), was initially an energy saving measure. The idea of adjusting watches to maximize the use of natural light appeared, for the first time, during the First World War, when European countries have sought effective ways to reduce fuel and electricity consumption.

In Romania, the change of time was trained in 1917 and was established permanently since 1979.
