The weather cooled sharply throughout the country and it snowed in the mountain areas, reaching a layer of snow of 10 centimeters in some counties.
Road workers intervene, on Wednesday morning, in the mountainous areas, to clean the road. At high altitudes, it snows and temperatures are low.
“On DN 67C, the mountain area, the Târgu Jiu National Roads Department is acting with machines with blades and anti-skid material to remove the effects of weather phenomena”, the Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges Craiova announced on Wednesday morning, according to News.ro.
Snowfall and low temperatures are recorded in the mountain area.
“Don't travel in snow-affected areas with vehicles not properly equipped!”, recommended road users.
Meteorologists announced on Tuesday that in the coming period the weather will be cold and there will be mixed precipitation. It will snow in Transylvania and Moldova, with a snow layer of 2-6 centimeters and isolated 10-12 centimeters expected. In the mountains, the layer of newly deposited snow will reach 15 centimeters.
In Suceava County, the snow layer reached 10 centimeters on Tuesday, in the Palma Pass, which connects the Moldovița Valley to the Suceava Plateau, according to Observer News.
The first significant snowfall of this season was recorded during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in the municipality of Miercurea-Ciuc and in the resort of Harghita-Băi, where the snow layer reached ten centimeters here as well.
Snowfall was reported throughout the county, especially in the mountainous areas, and road workers took action to clear the roads.
“In Miercurea-Ciuc, four snow plows, two pavement machines and 20 employees worked during the night, 25 tons of anti-slip material were spread on roads and sidewalks”, according to a post on Facebook by the deputy mayor of Miercurea-Ciuc, Bors Béla.
The spokesperson of the Harghita Prefect's Institution, Adrian Pănescu, stated for Agerpres that, as far as national roads are concerned, traffic is carried out in winter conditions on DN 13B (Praid – Bucin – Gheorgheni), DN 11B (Casin – Cozmeni) and DN 12C (Gheorgheni – Lacu Roșu), where the layer of kneaded snow treated with salt reaches up to three centimeters.
According to DRDP Brașov, it also snowed during the night in Covasna county.
According to the quoted source, the affected areas were especially the crossing lanes in the mountain area: Pasul Oituz, Lacul Roșu and Bucin area.
