The PNL candidate for the position of general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, stated to Euronews that he supports the return to elections in two rounds for the position of mayor, arguing that legitimacy is very important when a person holds a public office, and a mayor, the more votes he has, the more legitimacy he enjoys.
Ciprian Ciucu declared that the future mayor will have to do “hard work” and that he “has to regain the trust of the people”, especially if he will be voted with an electoral score below 30%, considering that the local elections are held in a single voting round.
The liberal candidate recalled that “legitimacy gives you authority”.
“Legitimacy is very important and maybe we will come back and discuss, after these elections, next year, in a serious way, the return to two rounds for the election of mayors, because it can only be good for democracy”, said Ciprian Ciucu, in this context, on Monday evening, at Euronews Romania.
The elections in two rounds were invoked, also on Monday, by the USR candidate for the General City Hall, Cătălin Drula, when he was asked if it would be appropriate to withdraw a candidate from the race in his favor.

“I can't allow myself to say that, because I think the elections are about having a choice. That's it. If we don't have a vote in two rounds, because the parties of the two candidates want this voting system in a single round, we're still here. We fight with all our heart and with everything we can, the USR, to have a vote in two rounds. But until then, I think the essence of democracy is about elections, about projects, about debates. That if we could only solve things tactically and pulling strings, we would no longer make elections”, said Cătălin Drula.
