The President explains the appointment of Vlad Voiculescu, criminally prosecuted by the DNA, as his advisor by the fact that his criminal file “has been open for many years, without anything happening”: “The prosecutor's office can make an effort to solve these cases”.

Nicușor Dan made these statements on Sunday evening, in an interview on Romania TV, when asked about the appointment of the former Minister of Health Vlad Voiculescu, prosecuted by the DNA since December 2023 in the case of the purchase of anti-Covid vaccines.

“I got all the information. I'm not going to say that the prosecutor is right or not. It's a file that was opened many years ago and that's not moving forward. The prosecutor's office can make an effort to resolve these cases. If some things happen, obviously then we have to distance ourselves,” answered Nicușor Dan.

He recalled the situation in which during his term as mayor of the Capital he was accused by the National Integrity Agency and it took four years until the supreme court determined that he was not in incompatibility.

“I think that we must reach an administrative context in which the suspicions of some people who represent the state must be resolved. We have 3,000 prosecutors, some of whom work a lot, others quite a bit. There are many things about the efficiency of the judicial act that we need to discuss”, said Nicușor Dan.

MEP Vlad Voiculescu was appointed, on November 13, to the team of councilors from Cotroceni. Vlad Voiculescu is honorary advisor for resilience, innovation and European solidarity.

The National Anticorruption Directorate announced, in December 2023, that the criminal prosecution for abuse of office and complicity in abuse of office with particularly serious consequences, in the case of the purchase of anti-COVID vaccines, against former Prime Minister Florin Cîțu and former Ministers of Health Vlad Voiculescu and Ioana Mihăilă officially began.

In this file, Vlad Voiculescu is prosecuted for abuse of office, with particularly serious consequences (two acts), and complicity in abuse of office, with particularly serious consequences. DNA estimated the damage in this case at one billion euros.
