Greece will supply gas to Ukraine in winter. Details of the agreement became known

DEPA clarified that they signed a declaration of intent with Naftogaz for “the supply of natural gas to the Ukrainian market in the winter period from December 2025 to March 2026.”

“The future agreement provides for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States through Route 1, which is jointly provided by the transport system operators (TSOs) of Greece (DESFA), Bulgaria (Bulgartransgaz), Romania (Transgaz), Moldova (VestMoldTransgaz) and Ukraine (OGTSU),” the statement said.

On June 11, at the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis proposed creating a transport corridor from northern Greece to Odessa. Then he suggested that such a transport corridor would include gas pipelines, an electrical network and a railway.

The Ukrainian delegation discussed the import of American liquefied natural gas to Ukraine during a visit to the United States in October, Economy Minister Alexei Sobolev reported.

On November 14, Ukrainian Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine would sign a gas supply agreement with Greece to maximize options for gas supplies to Ukraine this winter and in the strategic future.

On November 16, Zelensky arrived in Greece on an emergency visit. In the morning he reported that there was an agreement on financing gas imports. “We will cover the need for almost €2 billion in gas imports to compensate for the loss of Ukrainian production due to Russian attacks,” the head of state emphasized.

At a joint press conference with Mitsotakis, Zelensky said that gas supplies will begin in January 2026. The President also expressed gratitude to the United States for the opportunity to receive gas not only from Greece, but also in transit (American) through this country.
