Daniel Băluță, the PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall elections, said on Antena 1 on Tuesday that “a very important goal” for him if he wins the election on December 7 “is that of expanding the city”, which “has become much too narrow and crowded for the large number of people who exist in it”.
Asked during the “Observator” show which of the projects of the former general mayor, the current president Nicușor Dan, he would take forward, Daniel Băluță first mentioned the “radials”, which he believes “were very correct and are some projects that must be continued”.
“I would continue the changes and the construction of infrastructure on the median ring of the Capital. I would continue this restriction of constructions inside the city, because our city has become much too narrow and congested for the large number of people that exist in it – and a very important objective that I have is to expand the city, either as a metropolitan area or as an integral part of Bucharest, and we will take advantage of the amendment of the legislation related to the administrative-territorial division of Romania in order to implement these changes in the legislation”, added Daniel Băluță.
He believes that such an “administratively new metropolitan area must be properly urbanized, regulated so that the city can develop normally and breathe.” The PSD candidate claims that a “fundamental” objective in his program is “that of increasing the quality of life”.
Daniel Băluță was then asked if he thinks that Bucharest and the Ilfov localities on the outskirts of the Capital should be managed by a single local administration.
“It's not normal and I'll tell you why. Driving is always a team sport. We need Ilfov, as an integral part of Bucharest, but with autonomy from this point of view, just as we also need Bucharest's sectors. Nobody can drive alone. Nobody is “Superman”. That's why we need cooperation, collaboration – these are the keys to success in general”, said Daniel Băluță, currently mayor of Sector 4.
