President Nicușor Dan said on Friday morning that he will make his statement of wealth despite the CCR decision.
“Of course I make the declaration of wealth. The CCR decision refers to the public's access to the declaration of wealth. It surprised me. They are probably issues related to access to personal data. The CCR must draft and the Parliament quickly modify the law so that citizens have access,” Dan told reporters who were waiting for him this morning.
He said he would facilitate public access to his statement of wealth. “If the law forbids to publish years, a public on the page of the presidency, it is not a problem,” Dan gave insurance.
Asked why he thinks that the decision came so late, the head of state stated that he did not know when the notification was made at the Constitutional Court of Romania.
The assets of the dignitaries, kept secret, following a decision of the RCC
In a first reaction, Dan criticized on Thursday night the decision of the Constitutional Court (CCR) on the publication of declarations of wealth and interests, stating that this is a “surprising” and that it is “in contradiction with an essential principle of democracy-transparency in the exercise of public functions.”
“The access of citizens to information on the statements of wealth of the dignitaries is a guarantee of integrity and responsibility in the public space, and this principle must be defended firmly,” the head of state stressed.
“If the motivation of the decision identifies the technical deficiencies within the current legislative framework, it is the responsibility of the Parliament to correct them with speed,” concluded President Nicușor Dan.
The RCC has decided, previously during the day, that the statements of wealth and interests should no longer be published on the website of the National Integrity Agency, nor on the online pages of other public institutions, and these statements should no longer include the revenues and goods of the spouses and children.
