War in Ukraine. Citizens of African countries are fighting on Russia's side
Ukrainian authorities said last week that more than 1,400 citizens from over 30 African countries are fighting alongside Russian soldiers in Ukraine, some of whom were recruited by deception. According to the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kenyan embassy in Moscow reported that some of the recruits were injured and that they were promised up to 18,000. dollars to cover visa, flight and accommodation costs.
The ministry reported that in September an operation was carried out near Nairobi, during which 21 Kenyans preparing to participate in the war were rescued and one person was arrested.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the recruited Kenyans were misled as to the nature of the tasks they would perform. Kenyan citizens believed that they would not fight, but only, for example, install drones.
