Why is this important?
Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that an additional duty of 34 percent would be imposed on imports from China. Along with 20 % tariffs implemented this year, this means that the goods from the PRC will be burdened with duties of 54 percent from April 5. During the election campaign, Trump announced a tariff of 60 percent.
How did China react?
China authorities announced on Friday about the introduction of retaliation duties of 34 percent. For all goods imported from the USA in response to the “mutual duties” announced on April 2 by Washington for Chinese products. The decision, approved by the Council of State, enters into force on April 10.
The exception are goods that were sent to China before April 10 and will be imported until May 13. The statement given on the pages of the Ministry of Finance emphasized that “there will be no exemptions or discounts in relation to imposed duties”.
How did Donald Trump commented on China?
Donald Trump referred to China's decision in an online post. “China played it badly, panicked – the only thing they can't afford,” wrote the American president on the Truth Social platform.
