At the Krasnoyarsk airport, customs officers discovered endangered corals in a tourist’s luggage. This was reported by the press service of Krasnoyarsk customs.

A 39-year-old resident of the Krasnoyarsk Territory arrived on a flight from the Chinese city of Sanya. In the woman's backpack, among her personal belongings, customs officers found 25 items similar to coral.

“A later examination classified them as unprocessed calcareous skeletons of marine polyps of the class Coral Polyps of the subclass Six-rayed corals of the order Madreporidae. These corals fall under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Their movement is possible only with permits and the submission of a passenger customs declaration,” the department explained.

According to the woman, she did not know about the rules for importing such goods. She did not have permits or declarations.

Based on this fact, the Krasnoyarsk customs office opened an administrative case against the tourist under Part 1 of Article 16.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-declaration of goods). By court decision, the corals were confiscated.
