Elections in Bucharest. Two candidates enter the race on Wednesday / When will we officially find out all the candidates for the Capital City Hall

Applications for the position of general mayor of the Capital can be submitted from Wednesday until Monday, November 17. The first to go to the Municipal Electoral Bureau (BEM) to submit their candidacies are Cătălin Drula from USR and Alexandru Zidaru, independent (known as Makaveli).

Cătălin Drula will be the first candidate who, from 1:00 p.m., will submit his candidacy for the Capital City Hall, at the Municipal Electoral Office. According to USR, he will also be accompanied by the party's president, Dominic Fritz.

Makaveli also enters the race for Bucharest City Hall

Alexandru Zidaru (Makaveli) will submit his candidacy for the position of general mayor of the Capital also on Wednesday, from 15:00.

Makaveli presents himself as an independent candidate, although he was close to Diana Șoșoacă's party and is now supported by a group of parliamentarians who left SOS Romania.

Makaveli told the press that, once he submits his candidacy, he will present “the main directions of my program for Bucharest 2030, concrete and sustainable projects, focused on:

“1) Gasification of waste, clean city, low-cost electricity and heating agent, without costs for the local budget.

2) Intelligent traffic, systems with artificial intelligence to streamline traffic and reduce pollution, in partnership with the JICA Agency in Japan.

3) Safety in schools, monitoring and prevention of drug trafficking with video system, access for parents and modern rehab centers for children.

4) Housing for young people, 10,000 apartments built in a public-private partnership, rented according to income, with commercial spaces and integrated offices for urban development,” the independent candidate said.

Bucharest election calendar

From Monday, November 17, when it is the last day for submitting applications, appeals can be submitted. Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of a candidature can be submitted until November 19, 2025, and their resolution will be made no later than November 20, 2025. After this date, the candidatures remain final, unless one or more candidates decide to withdraw.

The election campaign will start on November 22, 2025 and will end on December 6, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. Ballots will be printed on December 2, 2025.

Voting will begin on December 7, 2025 (Sunday), from 7:00 a.m. and will end on the same day at 9:00 p.m.

The polls give Daniel Băluță first place. How do the numbers look at Drula and Ciucu

Ciprian Ciucu (PNL), Cătălin Drula (USR), Daniel Băluță (PSD), Anca Alexandrescu (AUR), George Burcea (POT), Ana Ciceală (SENS) and Alexandru Zidaru (Makaveli) have so far announced their candidacies in the elections in the capital.

The most recent survey carried out by Avangarde for the Capital City Hall shows that Daniel Băluță, from PSD, ranks first (24%), followed by Ciprian Ciucu, PNL (21%), then Cătălin Drula, USR (20%) and Anca Alexandrescu, independent but supported by AUR (17%).

Makaveli is rated at 4%, as is Ana Ciceală, from SENS. Vlad Gheorge, another independent candidate, is rated in the Avangarde poll with 5%.
