They even used Orlen to collect hooks for political opponents – commented the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, on Monday's reports from Radio Zet. Radio Zet reported that a detective paid by Orlen during the PiS era reported that the then MP Marcin Kierwiński was supposed to lead the group responsible for media attacks on Orlen's president, Daniel Obajtek.

In March last year Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that during Obajtek's presidency, Orlen commissioned a private detective to “investigate opposition MPs“, including Marcin Kierwiński, Jan Grabiec and Andrzej Halicki. Orlen – as Donald Tusk pointed out – was to pay a total of one million zlotys for it.
Monday's reports from Radio Zet show that “private detective Wojciech K., in reports on the surveillance of politicians carried out on behalf of Orlen, allegedly presented Marcin Kierwiński as the leader of the group responsible for media attacks on Daniel Obajtek.” According to these reports, Orlen was to pay “twice PLN 196,000” for cooperation with the detective.
“They even used Orlen to collect hacks against political opponents. Why is Kaczyński defending Obajtek? Because he is actually defending himself and his party DNA, which contains the willingness to illegally surveil political opponents,” Kierwiński wrote on X on Monday.
The portal wrote that the detective reports found in Orlen, which are now the main evidence of the prosecutor's office, contain information about the activities of the group that Kierwiński was supposed to lead. According to them, it was supposed to be “illegally financed from EU funds received from associations from Lower Silesia.”
“Among several associations mentioned in the reports was the Legnica Association of Civic Initiatives, whose chairman from 2004 to 2008 was Robert Kropiwnicki (until recently deputy head of MAP – PAP),” we read.
The portal found out that on October 16, the prosecutor's office supplemented the charges against detective Wojciech K. “He is suspected of abuse of trust in business transactions, punishable by up to three years in prison (Article 296, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code) and defamation, punishable by a fine or up to one year in prison (Article 212, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code),” it was written.
According to the portal's sources, the detective pleads not guilty and claims that the reports found in Orlen are falsified. “According to the prosecutor's office, Wojciech K. used the help of other detectives during the surveillance of PO politicians and conducted 'cybernetic activities' against politicians,” wrote the Radio Zet website. Kierwiński told the portal that Daniel Obajtek used public money to surveil opposition MPs who “only asked questions that were difficult for him in public.” According to him, information about his wife was also collected.
