Newslab studied the statistics and found out how the amount of child benefits in the Russian Federation has changed over the past 5 years.

Maternity capital increased by more than 40%, from 466.6 thousand rubles for the first child and 616.6 thousand rubles for the second (or 150 thousand rubles if the family previously received a payment for the first-born) in 2020 to 690.2 thousand rubles for the first child and 912.1 thousand rubles for the second (or 221.9 thousand rubles if previously the family has already received a payment) in 2025.

In just 18 years of the program, Russian families have received about 14.5 million certificates for maternal capital. From 2022, the payment is indexed to actual inflation.

The maximum payment for pregnancy and childbirth in 2025 reached 794.3 thousand rubles, despite the fact that in 2021 this figure was at around 340.7 thousand rubles. For working women, the benefit amount is 100% of average earnings, paid in total for the entire period of maternity leave.

The one-time benefit for the birth of a child has increased 1.5 times since 2021; in 2021, the payment amount was 18.8 thousand rubles, in 2025 it reached 26.9 thousand rubles. The benefit is paid to one of the parents, the payment is made by the bodies of the Social Fund of Russia.

Child care benefits have increased by 40% over the past year. In 2024, they paid 49.1 thousand rubles for this, in 2025 they already pay 68.9 thousand rubles. The money is allocated to one of the relatives who actually takes care of the child and amounts to 40% of average earnings. When leaving parental leave early, the right to benefits is retained.

Let us recall that in 2025 a new national project “Family” was launched in Russia. The project is aimed at improving the quality of life of Russian families with children and supporting the birth rate in the country. It includes five federal programs: “Large family”, “Family support”, “Protection of motherhood and childhood”, “Older generation”, “Family values and cultural infrastructure”.
