Operation Midas. NABU and SAPO released audio recordings of conversations in the case of corruption in the energy sector


Midas is a mythical ancient Greek king cursed by the gods to turn everything he touches into gold. This morning the media reported about searches in energy government agencies, this was later confirmed by NABU.

“NABU and SAPO are conducting Operation Midas. 15 months of work, more than 70 searches, in which all detectives of the National Bureau are involved, thousands of hours of audio recordings. A high-level criminal organization in the energy and defense sectors has been exposed. Corruption in the energy sector, money laundering, illegal enrichment. Details later,” says the head of the Main Detective Division of the Bureau, Alexander Abakumov, in the video.

Further on in the video there are fragments of telephone interceptions with the voices of several people. Their names are not indicated, only nicknames – “Tenor”, ​​“Rocket”, “Carlson”. The dialogues probably talk about government funding for the construction of shelters at energy facilities and possible kickbacks on the part of officials, the appointment of controlled heads of government agencies and also suspicions of them from law enforcement officers.

NABU and SAPO do not report suspicions or personalities of the investigation. In the morning, people's deputy from Golos Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that the searches took place at the former Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, who now holds the post of Minister of Justice of Ukraine.



Context

On November 4, the Energoatom press service stated that in one of the company’s branches searches took place. The company noted that it was cooperating with the investigation.

The next day, NABU reported the arrest of the Deputy General Director of the Atomenergomash branch of NAEC Energoatom JSC on suspicion of bribery.
