Russians will be blocked from SMS and mobile internet for a day if the SIM card has been in international roaming or has not been used for more than 72 hours. A Kommersant source reported on the new rules.

To restore communication early, operators will offer to undergo simplified verification – follow the link from the SMS and enter a captcha. According to the publication, this mechanism is aimed at combating “orphan” SIM cards that can be used by third parties.
Experts note that technical failures are possible at the first stages, especially at airports where the time to restore communication will be critical for passengers. Previously, similar measures were already applied to foreign SIM cards, which caused problems with receiving bank SMS.
