Yuriy Gudymenko, a war veteran and head of the Public Anti-Corruption Council at the Ministry of Education and Culture, spoke emotionally about the problem of “writing off” the military after the front.

“On leaving the army, I got idiocy, bureaucracy and the desire to burn everything. They told me: “there's the door” and I left. I left my hand, my health, my friends in the war. And I received nothing in return. Even thank you.”

According to Yuriy, a veteran is faced with similar negligence. Leaving the service in its current form is a very difficult and unpleasant process, where the state clearly shows that it no longer needs you as a person. Officials do not want to deal with the issue of the qualitative transition of military personnel to veteran status.
So far, no clear mechanism has been created, let alone a “package for leaving the service”, where a former soldier can get the necessary social and psychological support.
