“Medcoworking” opened in Norilsk to train future doctors / Society news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

The opening of a new educational space, “Medcoworking,” took place at the Norilsk Medical College.

The project, implemented with the support of Norilsk Nickel under the charitable program “People of the Territory” (formerly “World of New Opportunities”), is designed to help solve the problem of shortage of medical personnel in the city and systemic career guidance for youth. The new space, equipped with modern equipment, will become a point of attraction for schoolchildren, students and practicing doctors.

The idea of creating such a center was born out of the city’s need for medical specialists and the need to involve young people in the profession from school. As Anastasia Savicheva, deputy of the Norilsk City Council and project manager, notes, “this project is our contribution to resolving the personnel issue. The key task is not just to create beautiful walls, but to fill them with life, to create an environment where schoolchildren can “try on” a profession. We see that there is already interest: practicing doctors are ready to work with schoolchildren, and this is the synergy for which everything was created.”

The Medworking space has been completely refurbished: in place of the old rooms, a lecture hall with modular furniture that can easily be transformed into a conference format, a chemistry room, and an area with modern microscopes and a 3D printer for printing anatomical models have appeared. Schoolchildren and students will be able to study the human structure and conduct research in an interactive format. The total investment in the project amounted to about 11.5 million rubles. A grant of 6.5 million rubles was provided by Norilsk Nickel, about 4 million by the Norilsk Development Agency, and another 1 million was provided by GLAVSTROY.

Director of the Department for Implementation of Corporate Projects and Charitable Activities of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel, Anastasia Perfilyeva, emphasized that the company especially values projects born “on the ground.” According to her, the most effective support is that aimed at strengthening local initiatives: “It is very important for us when the idea comes from the institutions themselves. Our common goal is to ensure that medical education in Norilsk becomes a recognizable brand, and that our graduates meet us in clinics,” she shared.

According to the director of the Norilsk Development Agency, deputy Maxim Mironov, the project was a logical step within the overall strategy for modernizing secondary vocational education in the region, developed jointly with the Higher School of Economics. The work is carried out systematically, taking into account individual development programs for each institution.

“The medical school was on the rise, with a team ready for change. We have big plans to further transform the entire first floor. But the main indicator of success today is the burning eyes of students who talk with delight about the new technologies that have become available to them,” said Mironov.

The new space will become a powerful resource base for medical classes that already exist in city schools. As representatives of the Department of General and Preschool Education noted, “Medcoworking” will allow schoolchildren to work with modern equipment, gain practical skills and dive deeper into specialized disciplines that cannot be taught in a regular school.

Retaining young talent in the North is a strategic task that requires the creation of a modern and comfortable environment for development. Chairman of the Norilsk City Council of Deputies Alexander Pestryakov believes that the key to solving it is in the formation of such points of attraction as Medcoworking.

“We understand that young people are leaving for new opportunities. So we have to create these opportunities here. This is a place where you can not only study, but also find mentors, gain first practical experience and become part of a large professional community. It is precisely this environment that creates the desire to stay,” Pestryakov concluded.

Further development of the project is focused on creating a seamless educational trajectory for future doctors. The concluded tripartite agreement between the Norilsk Medical College, the city Prevention Center and the Department of General and Preschool Education of the Norilsk City Administration lays the foundation for a unified ecosystem that will accompany the student from the specialized class to obtaining a profession. The partners plan to annually hold more than 70 lectures, electives and master classes, involving over 3,000 people.
