“I recently read that you communicate from time to time and she is even preparing to give a big interview,” the journalist asked Sukhanov.
“I didn’t say that I communicate from time to time. I said that I maintain contact. You can maintain contact with your family, for example, or you can with Sofia Mikhailovna. Unfortunately, I do not maintain personal contact with Sofia Mikhailovna. For me it would be an honor. But I am in contact with my family,” the presenter answered.
When asked whether Rotaru would give him an interview, as he had hinted earlier, Sukhanov did not answer in the affirmative.
“If you know a lot, you’ll grow old quickly. Let’s not rush things,” he warned.
According to Sukhanov, you need to go to the interview prepared mentally and physically.
“We have to be respectful and give it time. Everything will happen,” he added.
On October 9, Sukhanov, answering the question whether he plans to record an interview with Rotaru, said that the 78-year-old singer is now in Ukraine.
“I know this for sure, we are communicating. She wants to give an interview, she is preparing to give it, because, as far as I know, this is very important for her, but so far she is not in the right state, both mentally and, most importantly, physically, to do this. But, thank God, she is here, she is alive, she is with Ukraine,” said the presenter. “Well, I think this interview will happen. You just need to give the person time, because, well, everyone has their own threshold of this, this pain, and intolerance, and fatigue, and emptiness.”
Sukhanov called for Rotaru to be treated with respect.
Context
Before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, Rotaru sang in the Russian capital and other Russian cities, and in 2017 she performed at the birthday party of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.
In 2021, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky presented Rotaru with the “National Legend of Ukraine” award.
On February 24, 2022, the singer refrained from publicly condemning the actions of the aggressor, but periodically responds to massive shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russian occupiers.
August 24, 2025 Rotaru after a long pause published her new photographs, in which she was captured while walking around Kyiv.
