Ukraine intends to complete the construction of the European railway line between Lviv and the border with Poland in the second quarter of 2027, said Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Development of Communities and Territories.

“For us, this is one of the priority infrastructure projects for 2026. We plan to complete it, if I am not mistaken, in the second quarter of 2027,” said the Deputy Prime Minister at a press conference summarizing the past year.

According to plans a railway line with a European track gauge – 1,435 mm – leads from the Mościska II station on the Polish border to the Skniłów district of Lviv.

Kułeba recalled that in August this year, and not at the end – as previously planned – the project of building a European track on the Chop-Uzhhorod route was completed.

In July, Kuleba announced that the European Union had granted Ukraine a subsidy of EUR 76 million for the construction of a European railway line between Lviv and the border with Poland.

He then noted that the introduction of European tracks would shorten travel times, relieve pressure on border checkpoints and create new transit opportunities. “This is a clear signal that Ukraine is already part of the European transport network, and our integration will not take place in the future, but now,” emphasized the representative of the Ukrainian government.

“This is a key project – especially in the context of a major war – in terms of the country's ability to ensure stability, movement and interaction with partners. Despite the challenges of a full-scale invasion – closed airports, ports and damaged infrastructure,” Kułeba said.

The plan to build European-gauge railway tracks envisages work on a 72.9 km long section, leading from Mościska to Skniłów, i.e. from the border with Poland to the outskirts of Lviv.
