The operator previously informed on the X platform that an external DDoS attack was observed, which could cause temporary problems with the execution of BLIK payments.

“From 6:30 p.m., BLIK users should have no problems with completing transactions. The system infrastructure is secured and the operation of the services is constantly monitored to ensure their full liquidity,” the operator announced in the evening.

He emphasized that people whose transaction was approved and the money was blocked on their account should automatically receive their refund. “If this does not happen within 48 hours, we recommend contacting the bank or the publisher of the mobile application from which the transaction was made,” he added.

A DDoS attack also disrupted the operation of BLIK on Saturday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski then informed that disruptions in the operation of payment systems had been observed since the early morning hours, and the cause was an external DDoS attack on the Polish settlement infrastructure – he added.

DDoS attacks involve overloading servers with excessive traffic from many sources, which may lead to temporary unavailability of services.

BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. Polski Standard Płatności is responsible for the development of the system. The company's shareholders are: Alior Bank, Bank Millennium, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski and Mastercard. Last year, 2.4 billion transactions were made using the system, worth over PLN 347.3 billion. (PAP)
