The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, believes that it is not opportune to increase the minimum wage at this moment, because it has registered an increase of 75%, from 2021 until now, “although we have recorded an economic decline”. Nazare rejects the idea advanced by the interim leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, that we risk an infringement if we do not increase the minimum wage, according to News.ro.
“If we look at the minimum wage… we should look at the dynamics of recent years. Against a backdrop of economic deceleration, of economic decline year after year, from 2021 to today, we increased the minimum wage by 75%. I think we should be careful, I think we should put more value on the coordination between the dynamics of the economy and the increases in the minimum wage (…) We increased from 2,300 to 4,050. However, we cannot we don't take into account the competitiveness of the economy, especially when we want to relaunch it”, the Minister of Finance declared on Sunday evening at Antena 3 CNN.
Nazare rejects the idea of an infringement if we don't raise the minimum wage: “I don't think it's an infringement, because it's about the adequacy of the minimum wage. I don't think it can be an infringement.”
Asked if the minimum wage should be increased, the Minister of Finance said that “rather” it should not be increased, at least “not at this moment”.
The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, repeatedly stated that he spoke with the European commissioner Roxana Mînzatu about a minimum wage freeze, as Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan wants, and she told him that he was entering an infringement zone.
On Wednesday, after the meeting of the Tripartite National Council, the government announced that it is very likely that the minimum gross salary guaranteed in payment will remain next year at this year's level, but the consultations will continue next month as well.
