In January, after a shower in the bathroom, a gray or black coating often appears on the silicone seams – this is not dirt, but a fungus that multiplies due to moisture and lack of ventilation. Products with bleach smell pungent, irritate the lungs and do not always help. But there is a simple method that does not mask, but destroys the fungus in the bud.
What you will need:
baking soda – 2 tbsp. l.
hydrogen peroxide 3% – 1 tbsp. l.
old toothbrush
paper towel
How to do:
- Mix baking soda and peroxide to form a thick paste.
- Apply the mixture directly to the seams, especially in dark areas.
- Leave it overnight.
- In the morning, wipe with a soft brush and rinse with warm water.
- Pat the seams dry. This will prevent recurrence.
Baking soda absorbs moisture and creates an alkaline environment in which the fungus cannot survive. Peroxide penetrates deep into the pores of silicone and destroys spores. Together they work better than bleach, but without the odor and irritation.
By morning the seams will be white, clean, without gray spots.
