4.5 million people a year in Park Guell. Barcelona will close the door to its tourist attraction

The number of tourists visiting Barcelona's famous Park Guell will be reduced by approximately 500,000. people per year – results from the agreement between the Esquerra Republicana (ERC) party and the authorities of the capital of Catalonia.

– It's a necessary measure. We want the park to be regained by the people of Barcelona, ​​said Elisenda Alaman, a representative of the leftist independence party.

The restriction is to apply until the end of the term of office of local authorities in 2027; It has not been specified when exactly it will come into force.

Park Guell, which is one of the city's main tourist attractions, is visited by approximately 4.5 million people annually, reported the Catalan daily “La Vanguardia”.

In the past, demonstrations against mass tourism took place in the park. Water guns were aimed at foreign guests, which have become a symbol of protests in Catalonia.

Guell is one of the most famous parks in Barcelona and throughout Spain, known, among others, with Art Nouveau architectural elements. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century according to the design of Antonio Gaudi. Since 1984, it has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
