The sofa survived coffee, ketchup and a children's marker – and survived: how to wipe off any dirt in 10 minutes without dry cleaning and tears

Stains appear on the sofa instantly: spilled coffee, children's footprints, wool from the street or simply dust embedded in the fabric. But don’t rush to call dry cleaning or hide the marks under a blanket. In 90% of cases, you can cope with improvised means and without divorce.

Universal method for most fabric sofas:

What you will need:

  • Clean white cloth or paper towels
  • Warm water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Vinegar 9%
  • Baking soda

How to do:

Fresh stain from coffee, juice, food:

  • Blot the moisture with a napkin.
  • Mix 1 tsp. dish soap + 1 glass of warm water.
  • Apply the solution to the stain with a sponge, wait 5 minutes, and blot with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Grease stain from butter, chocolate, cream:

  • Sprinkle baking soda on top and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to absorb the grease.
  • Shake off, then treat with soapy water as above.

Old dirt or dust:

  • Mix 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water.
  • Apply to the stain, wait 3-5 minutes, blot.
  • Vinegar dissolves organic contaminants and disinfects.

After treatment, place a clean towel in place and press lightly to absorb any remaining moisture. Leave to dry at room temperature, not under a hair dryer or in the sun.

Before using any product, test it on an inconspicuous area.

Question and answer:

Is it possible to wash a sofa with soapy water?
Yes, but only with a mild, fragrance-free product and in a minimal amount. Excess moisture causes mold inside the padding.

What to do if the stain does not come off?
Do not use aggressive chemicals. It is better to repeat the treatment after 12 hours or contact a professional.
