Students go to the stock exchange. They establish the first student investment fund in Poland, Hossa ProCapital

Students from technical universities build racing cars, drones and robots. Chemists invent new substances, and economists… invest. More and more often, not only theoretically, but in practice – on a real stock exchange. In the latest episode of the GPW podcast – Gospodarczy Punkt Wiczenia, we talk to Bartosz Kocjan, founder of the first student investment fund in Poland, Hossa ProCapital.
The idea was born at the Wrocław University of Economics. This is an initiative of students of the Capital Markets Scientific Club who decided to create a real fund – with capital, a portfolio of companies and an investment strategy. They've collected it for now over PLN 40,000and will soon start investing on the WSE.
– “We learn to invest on a living organism, but in a safe way – under the supervision of academic staff and with real capital” – says Bartosz Kocjan.
The project operates in the form of an association. The money comes from donations and the profits are supposed to go back to the academic community – half of the funds will be reinvestedhalf will support scientific activities. As Kocjan emphasizes, it's not about beating benchmarks, it's about learning and experience.
The fund is modeled on similar initiatives from the USA and Great Britain, where student funds have been operating for years and organize their own conferences. This is an absolute novelty in Poland, although the Wrocław team has already established contacts with groups from Vilnius and Tallinn.
– “In the United States, students invest seriously. We are just blazing the trail, but we want to create future analysts and managers” – says Kocjan.
Hossy Prokapital's portfolio will include mainly: companies from the WSE. The first share purchases are expected to take place within a month.
