An anonymous NATO representative also emphasized that “Adjusting the number and deployment of U.S. military forces is not unheard of.”and “the US military presence in Europe remains the largest in many years.”
He assured that the US and NATO command remain in contact “ensure that NATO maintains a robust deterrence and defense capability.”
Earlier on Wednesday, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that the United States had informed the government in Bucharest and other NATO countries about the reduction in the number of American troops on the Alliance's eastern flank in Europe.

“The change in the size of the US armed forces is the result of the new priorities of the presidential administration (Donald Trump), announced in February. The Polish Ministry of Defense, in turn, informed that Poland had not received any signals regarding a possible reduction in the number of American troops stationed on its territory. This information was provided by the spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, Janusz Sejmej.
