Miłosz Motyk about KPEIK: “The government eliminates backlog”

Pursuant to EU regulations, Poland was required to prepare an updated version of KPEIK by the end of June 2024. However, Minister Motyk assured that delays did not carry the risk of financial penalties.
“The government successively eliminates the arrears left by its predecessors, accelerating work on the document,” he noted.
As the minister explained, by the end of this year the plan is to be sent to government committees, where it will be consulted. Then the Council of Ministers will adopt a binding resolution enabling the document to be sent to Brussels.
Motyk also emphasized that Poland is in constant contact with the European Commission.
“The Commission is aware that the specificity of the Polish energy system and the war in Ukraine influenced the pace of work,” the minister added, reassuring that the dialogue between the parties is efficient.

The European Commission in its statement reminded that Poland did not comply with the obligation to present the final version of KPEiK, which was required as part of EU climate obligations. Therefore, she decided to refer the case to the CJEU. Although this procedure may raise concerns, the position of the Polish government indicates determination in the completion of work on the document in the near future.
