Longinus Sotnik
On this day, Orthodox Christians honor the martyr Longinus. According to legend, the Roman soldier Gaius Cassius Longinus, who held the rank of centurion, was one of the guards guarding the site of Christ's crucifixion.
Thanks to church tradition, Saint Longinus in Rus' was considered a healer of eye diseases. On this day, everyone who had any vision problems prayed to him.
