Trump announces reconciliation with Musk: “He had a bad time, but I like Elon and I think I always will”

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Monday that he has resumed communication with Elon Musk, after a period of conflicts and public attacks. The leader of the White House confirmed, in a discussion with journalists on board Air Force One, that the two spoke “from time to time” in the last period.

Trump said the talks resumed after they met last month in Arizona at the funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead during a public event.

“I've always liked Elon,” said the American president, quoted by POLITICO. “He's had a bad time, a rough time. But I like Elon and I guess I always will.”

The claims mark an apparent easing of the relationship between Trump and Musk, who have been in open conflict in recent months. The dispute began after Musk suggested that he might support independent candidates against the Republican Party and even publicly discussed the idea of launching a new political formation, called the America Party.

In response, Trump then warned Musk that he was exposing himself to “very serious consequences” if he continues with these plans. The president even suggested he might use the Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE) — a structure that Musk initially led — against the billionaire.

Possible political implications

The rapprochement between the two could have important consequences in the perspective of the 2026 and 2028 elections, both politically and financially. As the owner of the X platform and one of the most powerful figures in American business, Elon Musk remains an important voice in the conservative area.

Through his media exposure and ability to support election campaigns through major donations, Musk can significantly influence future US political contests.
