The team from the north of France reacted in style after the failure with Răzvan Lucescu's PAOK in the Europa League and destroyed Metz, score 6-1. With this categorical success, Lille climbs into the top 4 of Ligue 1, just three points behind the leader PSG.
Paulo Fonseca's (52) players clearly dominated the match and the scoreboard opened in the 25th minute when Matias Fernandez-Pardo made a great run down the flank and passed to Hamza Igamane, who scored a simple 1-0.
Just a few minutes later, Metz could have equalized but Cheikh Sabaly missed incredibly from an ideal position and the phase was followed by a huge mistake by goalkeeper Pape Sy. He sent the ball straight to Felix Correia, who took advantage and scored with a superb 40-yard lob.
Lille, 4 goals in the second half
In the second half, the difference became huge. Correia (former Manchester City and Paris-Saint Germain player) made it a double in the 53rd minute after another move by Fernandez-Pardo, and Romain Perraud made it 4-0 ten minutes later.
Veteran Benjamin Andre (35) scored to make it 5-0 in the 82nd minute before Iceland's Hakon Haraldsson made it 6-0.
Metz did manage the honor though, through Ibou Sane, who superbly sent into the far corner to make the final score 6-1.
Up-to-date standings in Ligue 1
