Tulips are one of the most popular spring flowers. In addition to being highly decorative and having many varieties, they have another advantage – unpretentiousness. In order for these flowers to bloom brightly in your flowerbed at the beginning of the new season, it is important to plant the bulbs correctly and in the fall.
Tulips should be planted in autumn when the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm remains stable within +7-8°C. The ideal period for autumn planting is 25-30 days before stable frosts.
The general planting period is from mid-September to the end of October. This will allow the bulbs to take root, but will prevent them from sprouting prematurely. In different regions, the optimal planting time may be from late September to early November.
How to plant tulip bulbs
- Choose a sunny place for tulips, with well-drained, light and fertile soil.
- Plant to a depth of 10-15 cm, leaving a distance of 10-12 cm between the bulbs.
- After planting, mulch the flowerbed, for example with peat or dry leaves. This will retain heat and moisture, and also protect the plants from severe frosts.
