The Ukrainian army announced on Saturday that it had liberated the village of Torske, which is important for the defense of the city of Liman. Up to 100 Russian soldiers were killed and numerous others were captured during the assault, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army said on Telegram.

Torske is a village located in the north of the Donetsk region. Before the war, the village had a population of just over 1,000 inhabitants, but nowadays it is mostly destroyed. Torske is important because of its location on a hill on the banks of the Jerebet river, dpa and Agerpres note.

Shortly after the outbreak of war, the village was captured by Russian troops, then liberated by the Ukrainians during an offensive in 2022. The Russians announced that they had recaptured it in May this year.

This river constitutes a natural barrier and makes it difficult for the Russian troops to advance towards the city of Liman, located only 13 kilometers to the west, as well as towards the urban complex formed by the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, which the Russian army has so far failed to capture.

“They were barricaded in the village with minimal ammunition”

The 425th Skala Separate Assault Regiment announced that the Ukrainian flag was raised over the village.

According to him, before the start of the assault, the Ukrainian army divided the village into several sectors, determining which buildings were occupied by the Russians and had to be vacated.

The plan of the operation involved precise actions and coordinated work of the assault groups, which advanced step by step, the Ukrainian military said.

“The invaders were barricaded in the village with minimal ammunition. They were staying in basements without water and without food,” the Skala regiment reported on Telegram.

Ukrainian stormtroopers then methodically cleared the territory, house by house, eliminating enemies or forcing them to surrender.

According to the regiment, Russian units were disorganized and unprepared for the Ukrainian offensive, with some Russian soldiers fleeing their positions in panic, while others surrendered in small groups.
