German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche, who is visiting Kiev, said on Saturday that she had to take shelter in a bunker during overnight Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital, which left at least two dead and 12 wounded.
“It was a painful experience for me and unfortunately it is a sad part of the everyday life of Ukrainians,” said Katherina Reiche in a press conference, according to the DPA and Agerpres agencies.
“That night showed me once again very clearly that Russia's attacks on the Ukrainian population are aimed at exhausting it,” the German minister also said.
Reiche arrived in Ukraine on Friday at the head of a German delegation for a visit of several days. Attacks on electricity and heating sources shortly before the onset of winter are a danger, she said in Kyiv.
She promised Ukraine help to rebuild energy infrastructure destroyed in the attacks and said Germany would not abandon the Ukrainian people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Russia used nine ballistic missiles and dozens of drones in the night attack on the capital city of Kiev.
Since the beginning of the year, Russia has launched nearly 770 ballistic missiles and more than 50 cruise missiles at Ukraine.
