The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under an article on violation of industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities, which resulted through negligence in the death of two or more persons (Part 3 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code).
Authorities say the explosion was not caused by a drone attack. At the same time, propagandists of the Telegram channel “Caution, News” reported that Kopeysk was attacked by several UAVs.
Context
The Plastmass plant has been under US sanctions since 2023, and under EU and Canadian sanctions since 2024. Among other things, he made unguided S-8 aircraft missiles, which the aggressor country Russia uses to attack Ukraine. Such missiles (S-8BM, S-8DF, S-8KOM) are listed in the list of products on the plant’s website (the page was closed, but preserved in the archive). The ammunition produced at the plant constitutes the main firepower of the artillery and attack aircraft of the invaders, the plant indicated.
The Russian Ministry of Defense regularly reports on the use of such missiles against Ukrainian troops and civilians. They are launched from Su-25 aircraft and Mi-8/24/35 helicopters near the front line, military experts told Agency journalists.
